My name is Meghan, and I’m your not so typical adult. In 2006, when I was 16, I had a bad reaction when smoking and my brain got stuck in fight or flight mode. Although I tried hard to beat it, I succumbed to agoraphobia. Over the last 14 years I have come a long way. I went through stages where I couldn’t shower, walk outside my door, get the mail, or even walk to the back of my house.
My agoraphobia was extremely severe, to the point I was stuck inside, which meant my entire way of life changed for me. As the last few years have gone by I have improved a lot. This lead me to the creation of MeghanPugsly.com.
MeghanPugsly.com allows me to combine my love for writing with my love for helping people in every way that I can. Some of the topics I cover here are self improvement, self-care, anxiety and depression relief, cleaning, organizing, home life, and DIY crafts, just to name a few.
If you want to learn more about me and a longer version of my story, you can keep reading below.
My life and myself was paralyzed with anxiety, fear, panic attacks, and depression. For over a decade I was stuck in my bedroom. I could barely make it to the kitchen or bathroom without going into a panic attack. I was in fear every single minute of every hour of every day. In 2012 we had to move from the back of my neighborhood to the front. I drank bottles of fish oil trying to calm myself because I had read it was good for you.
I have no idea how, but I made it up the road to the new house. I had another episode and slid back down hill again until 2016. In 2016 I was working for a company where I met a few awesome co-workers who gave me some hope. I was working from home doing customer support and one of my co-workers told me baby steps. Take it just one single step at a time, and so I did.
I made it to the mailbox. To the back of my house. To the house next door, etc. I made it across the street in the neighborhood I live on. Then, I became close with one of my neighbors. With a LOT of patience and a LOT of help. I was eventually able to go into her house.
That was the first time in almost 10 years I made it into someone else’s house. I started on the porch, then a few weeks later the kitchen, and a few months later into the living room. For the first time in 10 years I thought I may actually get better someday.
A lot of things have happened in-between. In 2017 I got in the car with it moving for the first time (besides the move) since 2006. In 2018 I got in the car one more time (I went a few houses up and down the street.)
A little over a year ago, I had a huge breakthrough. Check it out!
First, I eventually made it to CVS! WOW! Talk about a miracle! This was the first time I have been in a store in 2006.
Second, I made it on the main road from one block to the other. It is a short drive, but, I DID IT! I actually saw the main road for the first time in 13 years!!
